Sophia Courtemarche is a Technical Theatre & Design and Dance split major hailing from Southern California. Sophia has served the SMC community through involvement with New Student Orientation, the Mission and Ministry Center, and Student Involvement and Leadership. She is extremely grateful to the Performing Arts faculty for supporting her over the last four years and honoring her with this award.

I want to thank my mom for always supporting me through every up and down these four years. Thank you so much to Deanna and Cathy for your support and encouragement in my many major changes and letting me cry in your offices when times got tough. I am so grateful for everything and will miss the SMC community deeply.
Favorite Saint Mary's Memory
At the Paint the SMC during Weekend of Welcome my first year, this guy ran up to me with a handful of paint and left his hand print on my brand new white St. Mary's baseball cap. I was so annoyed and never knew who the person was. Fast forward to senior year and that guy is now my best friend. Shoutout Geoffrey Ulysses Geissinger!

Favorite Saint Mary's Memory
My favorite memory is having my friend's 21st birthday in the townhouses the day before Covid restrictions were put on the county. We all danced outside of the townhouses and made a bunch of noise because my friends were graduating and weren't going to be at SMC anymore and were being sent back home to different countries. I also enjoyed having picnics by the tree of life at sunset and sunrise.
My Next Chapter
I want to try and work for Pixar or National Geographic one day. I will start by getting a job as a photographer, sports broadcaster, or graphic designer. As an art major, I love so many different creative jobs so any of them will be great to get into.

My Next Chapter
I will be working this Summer as an intern at CliftonLarsonAllen in Walnut Creek! I will study for the CPA exam and get my certification in the near future. In the meantime, I will be staying in the Bay Area.
